It’s here. It’s really here. But why does it make me leery?
I have decided I’m going to drop this off quick and clean: the first trailer for Nikolaj Arcel’s The Dark Tower has finally debuted, three months before its release. Watch it in full after the bump.
I have yet to read past The Drawing of the Three but an incredible takeaway from reading the first two books in the Stephen King saga is how uniquely intriguing everything unfurls. Especially in the first book, The Gunslinger, the journey is less about the realms we traverse but Roland Deschain’s rediscovery of self. The film, as indicated in the trailer, seems to take a different approach, favoring bombast and excess.
There’s plenty more to talk about the frankly underwhelming trailer, but I’ll leave the discussion to you. What are your thoughts? Leave a comment below and let’s discuss!
I’m personally fraught with how this film will turn out. Fortunately, the slated release date for the film isn’t too far off. The Dark Tower will hit Philippine theaters sometime in August.
In The Dark Tower, a Gunslinger named Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) roams an Old West-like landscape where “the world has moved on” in pursuit of the man in black (Matthew McConaughey) who is also searching for the fabled Dark Tower in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world. The film is directed by A Royal Affair director, Nikolaj Arcel.
